Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday formally relaunched the state-run English-language channel Pakistan TV, formerly PTV World, marking Pakistan’s renewed push to amplify its narrative globally. The channel went live after a symbolic button-press by the premier, both on-air and via its new digital platform.
Officials stated the initiative, delayed for eight months, aims to counter misinformation—particularly from Indian media—while projecting Pakistan’s political, cultural, and economic perspectives internationally. The revamped outlet carries the tagline “Pakistan speaks to the world.”
Veteran journalist Adil Shahzeb has been appointed to lead Pakistan TV, which will focus on news, current affairs, and global engagement. First launched in 2011–2012, the channel struggled for years with poor management and financial hurdles before this revival.
The development comes amid growing interest in English-language broadcasting in Pakistan. AsiaOne News entered the market last year, while Express Media Group is preparing its third English venture despite past closures. Analysts view the relaunch as Islamabad’s recognition of international media diplomacy amid rising regional tensions and global information warfare.
