A senior official of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued a warning that the national flag carrier is on the brink of collapse.
Without emergency funds, flight operations may be suspended by September 15. The PIA has already reduced its operational planes from 23 to 16, resulting in flight cancellations.
Additionally, Boeing and Airbus have halted spare parts supplies due to non-payment, causing significant daily losses for the airline.
Several PIA planes were detained at airports over unpaid fuel bills, and International Air Transport Association (IATA) services were restored only after an emergency payment of $3.5 million.

The official emphasizes the need for Rs23 billion in emergency funds to avert the suspension of flight operations.
Meanwhile, PIA is making all-out efforts to prevent this situation, and employees have not received their salaries. The airline’s financial troubles include grounded aircraft, rejected bailout requests, frozen bank accounts, and the looming threat of spare parts supply suspension by Boeing and Airbus.
