The PCB said Naseem’s post violated both the terms of his central contract and the board’s media policy, warning that disciplinary action will be decided after reviewing his response.

The controversy erupted when Naseem reposted a video showing Maryam Nawaz arriving at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium with a heavy security entourage during the PSL opener. He wrote, “Why is she treated like the Queen at Lord’s?” before quickly deleting the post.

Minutes later, Naseem claimed his account had been hacked and restored, but the explanation failed to convince the board. Within 24 hours, the PCB formally charged him with breaching its code of conduct, which prohibits public criticism of officials, policies, or associated figures.

The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of players’ public statements. The PCB has recently taken a strict stance against political expression, reinforcing boundaries between cricket and politics.

The situation has also drawn attention due to the context surrounding the PSL opener. While the league was officially held without spectators due to fuel conservation measures linked to the Strait of Hormuz crisis, the presence of high-profile dignitaries at the venue raised eyebrows.
