In Pakistan, efforts were made to abolish the left during Zia’s era, but despite those attempts, the Left actively campaigned against Zia’s martial law.
Many unknown faces emerged, some of whom became targets of violence. One notable figure who fought cancer a few years ago and continued to champion the cause of the Left until his last breath was Dr. Lal Khan.
Another leftist from that era, who remained part of various campaigns, is Imtiaz Alam. He served as the Chairman of SAFMA, actively engaged in leftist politics and journalism. However, upon reaching a certain position, he parted ways with the Left, embracing pragmatic politics.

Now, it has been reported that Imtiaz Alam will contest elections from constituency NA 161 in Bahawalnagar for the National Assembly on a public platform.
His slogans for the campaign are: Revolutionary Change, People’s Rule, Right Support – Guardians of Public Politics.”
