LAHORE: First batch of Pakistani students, forced by violent riots in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, arrived at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, yesterday night. Extremists taking roots in the area attacked six dormitories accommodating foreign students including Pakistanis which left 14 persons wounded.
Hasan Zaigham, ambassador of Pakistan to Kyrgyzstan, an X (formerly Twitter) video which he recorded to provide an update on the situation. He asked all Pakistani students in Bishkek to stay home until it will ends. The embassy is teamed up with local police in order to make sure that the students are safe.
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, Foreign Office Spokesperson, repeated the message of the ambassador, that the security of Pakistani students holds a paramount position. Through the government, the ambassador is always in contact with the local authorities in Kyrgyzstan, who expressed remorse and promised to investigate and punish those responsible for the violence.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep concerns about the situation and assigned Ambassador Zaigham to provide all professional assistance to the students as needed. The PM asked the ambassador to visit the hostel and together with the students, check on their security and general welfare. The Prime Minister also ordered readily made arrangements for Pakistani students wishing to return to their country with the government paying for the travel expenses.
“Very worried about the state of the Pakistani students in Bishkek. I have already asked the Pakistani ambassador to provide Pakistan’s full cooperation and help, he posted on his twitter.
Furthermore, the PM ordered Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and State Minister Amir Mukhammad to depart for Bishkek through a special flight. They will see the top officials of the government concerning the medical treatment of the students and also discuss the repatriation conditions.
