Canada has extradited 20-year-old Pakistani citizen Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, also known as “Shahzeb Jadoon,” to the U.S., where he faces terrorism charges in the Southern District of New York. Khan is accused of attempting to provide material support to Daesh and planning a mass shooting targeting a Jewish center in Brooklyn.
According to federal prosecutors, Khan began expressing support for Daesh in late 2023, sharing extremist content online and plotting attacks with an alleged U.S.-based accomplice. He engaged with undercover FBI agents, outlining plans for a coordinated assault using AR-style rifles. He aimed to carry out the attack on or around October 7, 2024, the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 conflict in the Middle East, citing it as a symbolic date.
Khan described New York as an “ideal” target due to its large Jewish population. He reportedly scouted locations, shared maps and photographs of the intended target, and discussed smuggling himself across the U.S.-Canada border. Canadian authorities arrested him near the border on September 4, 2024.
He is charged with attempting to support a foreign terrorist organization and attempting acts of transnational terrorism. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison. His initial court appearance is scheduled for today.
