Yesterday, on Sunday, social media users across Pakistan were seen complaining about VPN issues. The Pakistan government conducted a six-hour trial on Sunday to block more than 24 Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
VPNs are typically used when access to certain websites or applications is restricted in the country. Recently, there have been complaints in Pakistan about limited access to VPNs.
In August 2024 , the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) began enforcing stricter controls on VPN usage, aiming to restrict access to the previously banned microblogging platform “X”. several users shared that VPN speeds were slowing down and access was becoming more difficult.
A site that monitors internet and website disruptions reported that users faced service interruptions on VPN connections. According to the site’s graph, 10 complaints were recorded at 6:15 pm, with additional reports from another VPN service at 7:29 pm.
Some social media users have started sharing lists of VPN services that are still active in Pakistan, allowing people to stay connected despite limited internet access.
