Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector has unveiled an ambitious plan to achieve $10 billion in annual exports, marking a bold step toward positioning the country as a global player in medicine manufacturing and exports.
This milestone goal was discussed during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and a high-level delegation from the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA), led by Chairman Dr. Tahir Azam.
PharmEx Pakistan — A Vision for Global Reach
The PPMA introduced its flagship initiative, “PharmEx Pakistan”, a specialized export promotion platform designed to unite public and private stakeholders. The program aims to expand international market access, attract foreign investment, and establish Pakistan as a regional hub for affordable and high-quality pharmaceutical products.
Strong Growth Backed by Reforms
Minister Aurangzeb applauded the sector’s 34% year-on-year export growth, emphasizing that local pharmaceutical production increased by 18%, significantly higher than the global average of just 5%.
He also highlighted the government’s regulatory reforms, which have streamlined drug registration processes — reducing approval timelines from years to just weeks. This efficiency allows faster market entry for innovative medicines and strengthens Pakistan’s competitiveness in the global pharmaceutical landscape.
Government and Industry Join Forces
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment between the government and PPMA to enhance collaboration, attract new investments, and drive export-led growth. Both parties aim to ensure that the pharmaceutical industry continues to play a central role in Pakistan’s economic expansion, job creation, and healthcare innovation.
With global demand for affordable and reliable medicines on the rise, Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry is now strategically positioned to capture new markets across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East — paving the way for a decade of accelerated growth.
