To encourage the public to benefit from current reductions in diesel prices, the Pakistan Railways Department has significantly reduced train fares with immediate effect. The official notification highlights the following substantial price cuts for different classes, especially for 1 – 200 km trips:
Fare cuts may reach 54 per cent for passengers travelling in the economy class on some routes. For instance, the fare of Lahore-Rawalpindi has reduced from Rs250 to Rs 100. Likewise, the amount for the Khyber Mail for 1km -130km has been reduced from Rs250 to Rs100.
It is also worth mentioning that the fares in the AC class will be reduced by 40% for the travellers on various routes. This operation is a great relief to frequent and occasional travellers as the rail transport becomes more cost-effective.
The Pakistan Railways Department claims that this reduction in fares is in a bid to pass the savings in fuel costs to the masses. Reducing travel costs for rail passengers will help Pakistan Railways increase the value and attractiveness of train travel.
Railway officials in Lahore have said that the new fares have been implemented from Tuesday. This proactive step depicts the commitment of the Railways department towards offering cheaper means of transport to the citizens.
