Instagram is taking steps to address user concerns regarding its algorithm-driven feed by experimenting with a novel feature that permits users to share their feed posts exclusively with their designated “Close Friends” group.
While Instagram has confirmed the testing of this feature, it has not disclosed the specific regions where it is being trialed. The potential inclusion of this feature could alleviate the need for users to maintain a separate “finsta” account solely for sharing content with close friends.
Previously, Instagram had introduced the option to share Stories with a select list of “Close Friends” on a global scale back in 2018. In 2019, the platform had experimented with group chats within the “Close Friends” circle, although this feature was eventually retired with the Threads app.
In December, Instagram rolled out “Notes,” enabling users to share text updates with their friends. Furthermore, the platform has recently introduced a range of features such as music sharing, translation services, and location sharing for Notes.
The testing of this new feature is in line with Instagram’s ongoing commitment to offer users diverse avenues for self-expression and connection with others on the platform.
By granting users the ability to tailor their audience for feed posts, Instagram seeks to tackle the impersonal nature of the algorithmic feed and foster a more personalized user experience.
