Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir expressed his disapproval of players from India and Pakistan engaging in friendly chats during their Asia Cup 2023 match, which was disrupted by rain.
He emphasized that when representing their national teams, players should maintain a competitive and aggressive demeanor on the field, leaving friendships outside the boundary ropes.
Gambhir stressed the importance of those hours of cricket, as players are not just representing themselves but also their nations.

He noted a recent trend of players from rival teams exchanging pleasantries during matches and suggested that such camaraderie should be reserved for post-match interactions.
Gambhir also mentioned the importance of maintaining boundaries in sledging, emphasizing that banter is acceptable but personal attacks and involving family members should be avoided.
He cited his own friendship with former Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal as an example of maintaining friendships off the field.
