He emphasized that when representing their national teams, players should maintain a competitive and aggressive demeanor on the field, leaving friendships outside the boundary ropes.
Gambhir stressed the importance of those hours of cricket, as players are not just representing themselves but also their nations.

He noted a recent trend of players from rival teams exchanging pleasantries during matches and suggested that such camaraderie should be reserved for post-match interactions.

He cited his own friendship with former Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal as an example of maintaining friendships off the field.
