Journalist and host of ‘Khabarhar’ Aftab Iqbal recently issued a statement addressing the allegations made by actress Nargis against his former wife, Maryam Ali Hussain. He clarified that Nargis’s claim—accusing Maryam of being responsible for the turmoil in her own household—is baseless. Aftab shared that he spoke to Maryam regarding these allegations, and she swore an oath to assure him that she had no involvement in the matter.
Aftab explained that he considers his marriage to Maryam to have occurred during a “moment of weakness” in his life and that it took place after 2001—a period he refers to as distinct from what he calls his “days of ignorance.” He mentioned that post-2001, he experienced significant positive changes in his life and began to live with the intent to please his Creator.
He further added that his marriage with Maryam eventually ended in divorce, and this was something that happened many years ago. Aftab noted that he refrained from discussing this topic openly because he considers it a “bad chapter” of his life, something better left unmentioned. According to him, all his friends in the media were aware of this fact, and out of respect and regard, they never brought it up.
In his statement, Aftab emphasized that some people are shocked to hear about his former marriage, but that such shock should only arise if he were accused of an immoral or sinful act. He expressed that this is a private matter that should not have been publicly discussed, but circumstances led him to clarify it.
