NADRA Launches Easy Digital System for Birth and Death Certificates in Pakistan

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has taken a major step toward digital governance in Pakistan by introducing a new automated system for birth and death certificate registration. This initiative aims to make the process faster, transparent, and more accessible for citizens across the country.

Efficient Digital Registration Across Hospitals

In collaboration with provincial governments, NADRA has deployed advanced notification tools in over 50 hospitals and health centers nationwide. Major medical facilities such as PIMS, CDA, Federal Government Hospitals in Islamabad, and Lady Aitchison Hospital in Lahore are part of this pilot phase.
Hospitals in Quetta, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Hyderabad, and Matiari are also connected to the system.

Mobile App and SMS Notifications

With this new digital setup, birth and death notifications are sent directly to NADRA from hospitals. Parents or legal heirs are then notified via mobile app and SMS, guiding them to complete the registration at their respective Union Councils. So far, NADRA has processed over 4,000 birth notifications and 407 death notifications through this system.

Part of a National Digital Policy

The system is a key component of the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, approved by the Prime Minister on January 1, 2025. NADRA is working under the guidance of the Federal Minister for Interior to strengthen the national registration system and close existing gaps.
The pilot project is successfully running in three districts of Punjab and will gradually expand nationwide.

How Citizens Can Register

Citizens can now register a birth or death in two ways:

• 📱 Via the NADRA Mobile App

• 🏢 Or by visiting their nearest Union Council

Once fully rolled out, the system will be accessible in public and private hospitals across all provinces, ensuring quick and hassle-free registration for everyone.
