Mosharraf Zaidi Returns to Public Service as Chief Coordinator on Government Performance and Innovation at PM Office
Islamabad | July 2, 2025 — Renowned policy expert, public intellectual, and governance reformer Mosharraf Zaidi has officially re-entered Pakistan’s public service. In a post shared on LinkedIn, Zaidi announced that he has been appointed Chief Coordinator on Government Performance and Innovation at the Prime Minister’s Office — a key honorary role focused on supporting the government’s reform and delivery agenda.
“Alhamdolillah, I have been appointed Chief Coordinator on Government Performance and Innovation at the Prime Minister’s Office in Pakistan,” Zaidi wrote. “In this honorary role, I will be working to support the Prime Minister and federal government in pursuing ambitious plans like the PM’s Economic Transformation Agenda.”
Backed by Decades of Experience
Mosharraf Zaidi brings over two decades of experience at the crossroads of policy, governance, media, and economic reform, both in Pakistan and on international platforms. Most recently, he served as the CEO of Tabadlab (2018–2025), a prominent Islamabad-based think tank and advisory firm specializing in complex policy challenges across the public and private sectors.
He is also the co-founder of Vazeh.AI, a data analytics firm leveraging large datasets to support decision-making, and a senior advisor at the Albright Stonebridge Group, assisting international clients with strategic policy engagement.
Zaidi has previously served as Principal Policy Adviser at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2011–2013), and held senior roles at the UN in Afghanistan, UK’s DFID, the World Bank, and Pakistan’s National Reconstruction Bureau.
A Vision Rooted in Data and Impact
In his new capacity, Zaidi is expected to play a crucial role in embedding data-driven governance and evidence-based innovation across government performance systems — a need long recognized as critical to Pakistan’s reform trajectory.
“Any opportunity to help make the country a reflection of its founders’ hopes and dreams is a gift,” he added. “I am humbled by the gravity of this opportunity, cognizant of the burden this represents, and grateful for the chance to serve.”
While the position is honorary, insiders suggest his involvement reflects the government’s intent to revitalize public sector efficiency, ensure delivery on development pledges, and enhance transparency through data and evidence frameworks.
A Return That Signals Reform?
Observers see Zaidi’s return to the PM Office as a potential game-changer, especially as Pakistan grapples with economic recovery, institutional fatigue, and governance gaps.
Throughout his career, Zaidi has been a strong advocate for education reform, having previously led the Alif Ailaan campaign, and frequently writes and speaks on state-building, democratic accountability, and economic inclusion.
With Pakistan’s federal government under pressure to show tangible progress, Mosharraf Zaidi’s expertise in policy strategy, institutional design, and innovation may prove to be a timely and impactful addition to the national leadership team.
