Pakistan’s mobile phone market is heating up again, and the numbers are impossible to ignore. In just the first five months of FY26, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth Rs. 226 billion, showing a massive jump compared to last year. This sudden rise is raising eyebrows and sparking debate across the tech and business world.
So what’s really going on? Let’s explain it in simple words.
Pakistan Mobile Phone Imports Surge in FY26
According to official data, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $801.139 million between July and November FY26. This is more than 40% higher than the same period last year, when imports stood at $570.184 million.
In rupee terms, the increase looks even more dramatic. Imports jumped from Rs. 158.5 billion last year to Rs. 226.1 billion this year — a growth of 42.65%.
Clearly, Pakistanis are buying more phones again, despite high prices and economic pressure.
Monthly Trend: Imports Rise but With a Twist
November 2025 Shows Mixed Signals
On a month-to-month basis, mobile phone imports rose by 8.3% in November 2025, reaching $156.5 million, up from $144.5 million in October.
However, year-on-year data tells a slightly different story. Compared to November 2024, imports actually fell by 4.81%. This shows that while demand is improving, it is still unstable.
Last Year Was Tough for Mobile Imports
It’s important to remember that FY25 was a weak year for mobile phone imports. Pakistan imported phones worth $1.494 billion in FY25, which was 21.31% lower than FY24.
In rupee terms, imports dropped from Rs. 535.6 billion in FY24 to Rs. 417.3 billion in FY25. Overall telecom imports also declined by more than 11%, showing how badly the sector was hit.
The current rise in FY26 looks like a recovery phase.
Local Mobile Manufacturing Is Still Winning
Made-in-Pakistan Phones Dominate the Market
While imports are rising, local mobile manufacturing remains very strong. In the first 10 months of 2025, Pakistani plants produced or assembled 25.11 million mobile phones, compared to just 1.7 million imported phones.
In October 2025 alone, local factories produced 2.33 million phones, while only 0.2 million were imported.
Out of locally made phones:

11.9 million were 2G phones
According to PTA data, 70% of phones currently used in Pakistan are smartphones, while 30% are 2G devices.
Final Thoughts: What This Import Boom Really Means
The Rs. 226 billion mobile phone imports show that demand is bouncing back, especially for smartphones. However, rising imports also mean more pressure on foreign exchange, which Pakistan can’t ignore.
At the same time, strong local manufacturing is helping balance the situation. If Pakistan continues to support local assembly while managing imports wisely, the mobile industry can grow without hurting the economy.
