A heartwarming incident in the Swedish capital has captured the attention and admiration of millions worldwide. Salwan Momika, who caused outrage by desecrating the Holy Quran in Sweden, faced public and online scrutiny after his actions came to light. However, it was a Christian shopkeeper who stole the spotlight by refusing to serve him at his restaurant.
Despite not being a Muslim himself, the restaurant owner, Ibrahim Sirimci, an Iraqi immigrant in Stockholm, stood firm in his principles and barred Momika from entering his establishment. When confronted by Momika, Sirimci boldly expressed his disappointment, saying, “I’m Iraqi too, I’m a Christian. What you did is shameful. You insulted Islam. You hurt us as you hurt everyone else.”
Recalling the encounter, Sirimci shared that Momika had come to his shop seeking to buy soft drinks, but once he recognized him, he refused to sell anything to him. The Christian shopkeeper’s refusal to serve Momika became a powerful statement against the desecration of the divine book.
Momika, an individual of Iraqi origin residing in Sweden, had committed the controversial act of burning the Quran under police protection in front of the Stockholm Mosque during the first day of Eid al-Adha. Later, on July 20, he repeated a similar act by trampling on the Quran and the Iraqi flag, also under police protection, in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm.
Despite the heated controversy surrounding the incident, Ibrahim Sirimci’s principled stand has touched the hearts of people around the world, serving as a reminder of the importance of respecting one another’s beliefs and showing empathy towards others.
