Bilawal expressed profound admiration for his late mother, Benazir Bhutto, considering her a powerful representation of democracy, freedom, and gender equality worldwide. On Sunday, at Madame Tussauds in Dubai, they unveiled a wax figure in honor of Benazir Bhutto, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) slain chairperson and Pakistan’s first female prime minister.
Benazir Bhutto, who held the esteemed position of Prime Minister twice, tragically lost her life in a gun and bomb attack on December 27, 2007, just two weeks before the scheduled general election of 2008, where she was a leading opposition candidate. She also earned the distinction of being the first female elected prime minister in the Muslim world.
During an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari attended the unveiling ceremony of his late mother’s wax figure at the renowned wax museum. In his address, Bilawal expressed gratitude to Madame Tussauds for the opportunity to commemorate Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in this exceptional way in Dubai.
Bilawal fondly remembered seeing a similar statue at the wax museum in London, and he emphasized the close connection they have with Dubai, as it had been their place of exile for around a decade. The unveiling of the wax statue was a touching tribute to her memory, symbolizing her significant role in advocating democracy, freedom, and equal rights for women not only in Pakistan but also on a global scale.
In closing, Bilawal thanked the entire team at Madame Tussauds for their efforts in creating the wax figure, ensuring that the legacy of his mother, who was taken from them in a tragic event, would continue to be honored and remembered with reverence.
