Since Sunday night, Lahore has been enveloped in dense smog, and by Monday morning, it ranked as the world’s second most polluted city. India’s capital, Delhi, tops the list of cities with the highest pollution levels.
Due to the worsening smog, the Punjab government has ordered the closure of all schools up to the fifth grade in Lahore for one week, starting today.
Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb stated that issues related to smog can only be effectively addressed through dialogue with India. She added that a formal letter will be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today to initiate discussions with Indian counterparts.
Aurangzeb also emphasized that legal action will be taken against those who violate smog-related SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
