There was a big fire at the Sabzazar grid station in Lahore which caused a power breakdown in several parts of the city. The fire which occurred due to explosion in 220kV grid station at Bund Road caused interruption of electricity supply to 12 grid stations under LESCO.
The impact of the explosion was highly felt in the electricity system as it affected both the 220kV and 132kV grid stations. Thus, there was frequent load shedding in many localities such as Sabzazar, Scheme Morr, Samanabad, Iqbal Town, Chauburji, Mansoora, Multan Chungi, and Hanjarwal.

NTDC officials also revealed that some of the equipment and a transformer in the yard sustained partial damage due to the fire. LESCO’s chief executive and chief operations officer were quick to react by throwing in a high alert which ensured that teams were deployed to deal with the situation decisively.
Workers at the NTDC station together with the fire brigade and rescue units were mobilized to control the situation. The NTDC official remarked, “Our main concern right now is to reconnect the power supply to the essential services including the train service of Orange Line. We are doing our best in the reconnection process of the affected areas.
This timely and collaborative action has been essential in the process of reconnecting electricity to affected areas. LESCO further stated that despite the heavy losses, they are still working tirelessly to achieve full recovery and prevent further outage.
