Karachi journalist Imtiaz Mir injured in firing incident on Sunday night. The senior journalist and anchor was attacked near Malir Kala Board while he was returning home. His brother Muhammad Saleh was driving the car at the time of the attack. Unknown armed men on motorcycles opened fire at them.
According to police, Imtiaz Mir was hit by three bullets while his brother Saleh received one. Both were rushed to a private hospital. Initially, the journalist was placed on a ventilator. Later, Karachi Police DIG Farukh Lanjar confirmed that his condition is now out of danger. He also met the journalist at the hospital.
Police officers said that CCTV footage has been collected from the crime scene. They are using it to identify and trace the attackers. The Karachi journalist Imtiaz Mir injured case appears to be linked to personal enmity. Muhammad Saleh, who was also injured, confirmed that the attack was due to rivalry and not connected to professional work.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon condemned the attack. He assured that the government is committed to journalist safety and the suspects will be brought to justice.
Imtiaz Mir has been associated with journalism for more than a decade. He has worked on Sindhi channel Awaz and Urdu channel Metro, hosting current affairs programs. He was also among the journalists who visited Israel, but police confirmed the incident had no link to that trip.
The attack once again raises concerns about the safety of journalists in Karachi, where such incidents remain a serious threat.
