Today, social media is abuzz with reports that senior anchor Kamran Khan has left Dunya TV to join a major global YouTube channel. However, this isn’t considered big news anymore because TV channels are now parting ways with expensive anchors, as they can no longer afford them.
Social media has deflated the popularity of these anchors including Kamran Khan, and they haven’t fully grasped this shift yet.
In the past, some anchors became so self-centered that media workers, earning between 35,000 to 75,000 rupees a month, were laid off.
There was a time when an anchor leaving a channel would be breaking news, but those days are gone. Global economics has changed everything, and social media options have only added to this shift.
Only a few anchors have managed to make a good business on social media. Now, it’s all about marketing—who can market themselves best. In this regard, Mansoor Ali Khan, Rauf Klasra, and Imran Riaz Khan have established themselves well on social media at the right time.

Despite his efforts, Hamid Mir hasn’t been able to successfully launch his own YouTube channel.
Some workers couldn’t handle the stress and left this world, but the anchors remained indifferent and didn’t reconsider their million-rupee packages, forcing channel owners to shut down their businesses.
Media workers have long been campaigning for anchors to accept a fixed package of five to ten lakh rupees and earn the rest through commissions from their program’s business. This way, the money saved from anchors’ salaries could employ media workers.
Channel owners were also troubled by anchors bringing their teams and setting their package deals, creating a threat to the existing staff.
Sources indicate that Kamran Khan was receiving nearly one crore rupees (10 million) a month from Dunya News and had been repeatedly rumored to be leaving the channel. Today, sources say Dunya News breathed a sigh of relief.
Anchors are now earning well on YouTube and social media, so they should consider shifting their focus there instead of relying on news channels.
Most channels have now been bought by housing society owners, who were the only ones able to afford these expensive anchors, but even they have now backed off. Prominent examples include One News (former PNN) and Talon News.
Kamran Khan will now showcase his analyses on YouTube, marking the start of an era where social media and YouTube become primary income sources. May Allah be your supporter and protector, Ameen.
