Kamala Harris has hinted at a possible return to the presidential race in 2028, marking her first public signal of a political comeback following her defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
Speaking at the National Action Network convention alongside civil rights leader Al Sharpton, Harris stopped short of making a formal announcement but acknowledged she is considering another bid.
“I might, I might. I’m thinking about it,” Harris said, responding to chants from the audience urging her to run again.
Highlighting her experience as vice president under Joe Biden from 2021 to 2025, Harris emphasized her readiness for the role. “I know what the job is, and I know what it requires,” she said.
Harris made history in 2024 as the first Black and South Asian woman to secure a major party nomination, stepping in as the Democratic candidate after Biden withdrew from the race months before the election.
Despite mounting a strong campaign, Trump secured victory with a significant Electoral College lead, returning to power for a second, non-consecutive term.
At the event, Harris also criticized Trump’s policies, particularly his foreign policy approach, calling recent military actions a “war of choice” and warning that U.S. global influence had declined.
Her remarks come as the Democratic Party begins to shape its future leadership ahead of the 2028 election cycle, with several potential contenders already emerging.
While Harris left her decision open-ended, analysts say her comments signal an early positioning in what is expected to be a highly competitive race for the White House.
“I’ll keep you posted,” she told the audience, leaving the door open for a potential comeback bid.
