Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, has announced that the party will approach the court against the 26th Constitutional Amendment. Criticizing the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over the approval of the amendment, he said they had warned PTI from the outset not to fall into anyone’s trap.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said PTI members had initially agreed with Maulana Fazlur Rehman but later opposed the amendment, raising suspicions about the process. He alleged that the government passed the 26th Amendment through secret deals, and the parties that should have taken a stand on Form 47 failed to do so.
He further stated that those involved in vote-buying during the approval of this amendment would not be remembered positively in history. The amendment, he claimed, allowed the judiciary to be controlled.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman declared that Jamaat-e-Islami had decided to challenge the 26th Constitutional Amendment in court, adding that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) did not act wisely by passing the amendment.
Regarding PTI, he questioned why the party submitted names for the committee and then failed to participate, making the matter suspicious.
During his media address, he also commented on the political situation, lamenting that instead of upholding the law, people in Pakistan are often imprisoned for political reasons. He urged the government to release political prisoners, calling it a positive step.
