Israeli Strike Hits Residential Building in Iran’s Qom, Killing Two Amid Escalating Regional Tensions; building on fire in Holon after latest Iranian strikes on Israel
June 22, 2025 — Tehran/Qom/Isfahan/Tel Aviv — A suspected Israeli airstrike on Saturday struck a residential building in the central Iranian city of Qom, killing two people, including a 16-year-old, and injuring four others, Iranian state media reported. The strike reportedly hit the fourth floor of a multistory building, causing a fire that was visible in videos verified by CNN.
The escalation comes shortly after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced a new wave of strikes inside Iran, targeting key cities including Qom, Tehran, and Isfahan. Qom is of particular strategic concern due to its proximity to Iran’s secretive Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant.
Morteza Heydari, spokesperson for the Qom Provincial Administration, confirmed the casualties and said emergency services responded promptly. Simultaneously, air defenses were reported active over Tehran, 130 kilometers to the north, as explosions were heard in Isfahan, home to Iran’s largest nuclear research complex, which Israel has targeted in the past.

Fars News Agency reported that Isfahan’s air defense systems were engaged during the attack. While Iranian officials have not officially blamed Israel, the timing aligns with the IDF’s confirmed military operations.
Meanwhile, in Israel, shrapnel from an intercepted Iranian missile caused a fire on the roof of a building in Holon, near Tel Aviv. Video released by Israel’s national emergency services showed flames engulfing the structure. Israeli fire and rescue teams, according to a statement on Telegram, were working to control the blaze in Gush Dan, the greater Tel Aviv metropolitan area. The statement did not specify the exact city.
Emergency agency Magen David Adom confirmed that no injuries were reported in the Holon incident.
The tit-for-tat escalation underscores the growing risk of confrontation between Iran and Israel, as both nations continue to target key military, nuclear, and civilian sites across each other’s territory. Regional and international observers warn that without diplomatic restraint, the conflict could spiral further out of control.
