Last Thursday, a two-member bench of the Lahore High Court canceled Imran Khan’s physical remand in 12 cases related to May 9. Following this major judicial decision, PML-N supporters on social media criticized the Government prosecution team, including Federal Law Minister and Punjab Prosecutor General Farhad Ali Shah, accusing them of inadequate legal representation.
As per some media reports, the judge who rejected PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s remand request in the May 9 case was transferred to Multan, and government prosecutors and lawyers had only this option to satisfy the concerned PMLN factions after this defeat.
This development has intensified criticism against the government’s legal team, including Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar. The PML-N government continues to face challenges from the country’s courts, which are viewed as a major hurdle.
Political analysts believe that, aside from the judiciary, the PML-N government is not facing significant opposition from other political fronts.
This is not the first time the PML-N legal team has faced criticism. Previously, during the tenure of former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar was criticized for allegedly harming the government under the guise of ‘reconciliation’ in various cases.
Currently, some PML-N factions are targeting Law Minister Tarar on social media, claiming his ineffective strategy allowed PTI’s return to Parliament and foreseeing more unfavorable judicial decisions for PML-N.

Prosecutor General Farhad Ali Shah defended his team, stating that those criticizing might have other motives. He asserted that the case was presented comprehensively, and there was no basis for ending the remand.
He emphasized that if the court does not listen, there is little the lawyer can do and that there was no error in the prosecution’s case. Despite several attempts, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar was unavailable for comment.
Critics of the PML-N legal team argue that they are not presenting their cases effectively, while their supporters believe the courts are making politically motivated decisions, not the fault of the legal team.
PILDAT head Ahmed Bilal Mehboob suggests that both arguments hold some truth, noting that major court decisions have often been political rather than purely constitutional and legal.
He also pointed out the inefficiency of the PML-N team and highlighted the ongoing confrontation between judges and the establishment, reflected in recent judicial decisions.
Political analyst Wajahat Masood echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the political nature of court decisions and criticizing attempts to influence the judiciary, which undermines democratic values.
He concluded that while the PML-N legal team’s weaknesses are apparent, the primary conflict is between the establishment and the judiciary.
