The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has approached the International Cricket Council (ICC) to request a change in venues for the T20 World Cup 2026 matches in India. This follows the removal of Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL 2026 squad by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
KKR, owned by Shah Rukh Khan, dropped Mustafizur Rahman amid pressure from political groups in India. This decision has sparked controversy across cricketing circles.
Following this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) postponed its 2026 tour of Bangladesh. The BCB has raised player safety concerns and requested ICC to consider alternative venues for the T20 World Cup matches.
Bangladesh’s Scheduled Matches in India
Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 matches in India are scheduled as:
-
February 7: vs West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata
-
February 9: vs Italy at Eden Gardens, Kolkata
-
February 14: vs England at Eden Gardens, Kolkata
-
February 17: vs Nepal at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
A BCB official stated that excluding Mustafizur Rahman from IPL is an internal BCCI matter. However, the World Cup is an international event, and the ICC will make the final decision.
Bangladesh will discuss the matter with ICC soon to ensure player safety and fair participation. BCB has also announced its home season starting March 2026, including three ODIs and three T20Is against India.
The MediaBites team applauds Bangladesh Cricket Board for prioritizing player safety and taking proactive steps ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
