Pakistan’s Wireless and Internet Service Providers have demanded an extension of the Virtual Private Network (VPN) registration deadline.
According to the report of Daily Jang, the Chairman of the Wireless and Internet Service Providers Association wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, requesting an extension of the VPN registration deadline.
As the Chairman of the Islamic Ideological Council clarified that a statement regarding VPNs had a typographical error.

The letter mentioned that making the VPN registration process easier has benefited freelancers, citizens and businesses . It also addressed concerns related to sensitive information in the previous process.

The Chairman’s letter further stated that freelancers and citizens have started the VPN registration process without hesitation, and the Association is encouraging its members to adopt a secure way of using VPNs.
The letter point out that need to raise awareness among citizens regarding VPN registration. Service providers, in collaboration with the IT industry, can further simplify the VPN registration process.
It was also mentioned in the Chairman’s letter that rebuilding consumer trust in the current process and extending the registration deadline will help achieve the government’s objectives.
