Pakistan has taken a major step toward strengthening its national cybersecurity framework with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Computer Emergency Response Team (PKCERT) and global cybersecurity firm Kaspersky. The agreement aims to enhance Pakistan’s ability to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats through close collaboration and coordinated efforts. The MoU was signed by Dr. Haider Abbas, Director General of National CERT, and Rashed Al Momani, General Manager for the Middle East and Pakistan at Kaspersky, in the presence of Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Kaspersky CEO Eugene Kaspersky.
Under this partnership, PKCERT and Kaspersky will work together on cyber threat intelligence sharing, incident response, and prevention strategies. The collaboration also focuses on training and awareness programs to improve cyber resilience across government institutions, private industry, academia, and civil society. Leveraging Kaspersky’s global experience with international CERTs and public-sector organizations, the initiative will help Pakistan counter challenges such as ransomware, cyber espionage, data breaches, attacks on critical infrastructure, and disinformation campaigns.
A key pillar of the MoU is capacity development and cybersecurity education. Both organizations will support research, professional exchanges, and skill development initiatives aligned with national and international standards, helping build a strong cybersecurity workforce in Pakistan.
The MediaBites team congratulates PKCERT and Kaspersky on this strategic partnership, calling it a timely and vital move toward a safer digital future. This collaboration reflects Pakistan’s commitment to secure digital transformation and enhanced protection for citizens, businesses, and state institutions.
