A woman brought from Qatar was allegedly killed in Wah Cantt after her husband ordered the murder on a video call, triggering a police probe into a brutal honor killing.
A chilling cross-border “honour killing” has shaken Pakistan after a married woman was allegedly brought from Qatar to Pakistan and murdered on her husband’s instructions during a live video call, police say.
The killing took place on December 30 in Wah Cantt, where the victim, Samira Aziz, was shot dead inside her father’s home by close relatives. According to the FIR registered at Wah Cantt police station, the order to kill came from her husband, Suleman, who was watching from Qatar.
In a harrowing statement to police, Samira’s sister Sana said the family received a late-night knock at around 10:20 p.m. Despite hesitation, the door was opened after a phone call from their uncle Imtiaz in Qatar. Samira was taken upstairs, where moments later her husband appeared on a video call and allegedly told the attackers to separate others and “finish her.”
Seconds later, gunshots rang out.
Police say the suspects — identified as relatives Waleed and Israr — opened fire with a pistol, killing Samira on the spot. The motive, investigators allege, was suspicion that Samira had spoken to another man while living abroad.
The FIR states that Samira had been living with her husband in Qatar and was brought back to Pakistan just a week before the killing. Her husband, uncle and other close relatives have been named in the case.
A police patrol van was nearby at the time of the incident and officers reached the scene shortly after being alerted. Rawalpindi police spokesman Muhammad Aamir Abbas said raids are underway and that suspects inside and outside Pakistan will be investigated.
The case has triggered public outrage and renewed questions about impunity in so-called honour killings. Rights activists are asking whether those who planned the murder from abroad will be brought back to Pakistan, and whether the killers will finally be made an example under the law — or added to a long list of brutal crimes that fade without justice.
