In a major setback for Huawei in Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has suspended the company’s telecom license due to regulatory violations. According to an official order, Huawei Technologies Pakistan failed to get a mandatory commencement certificate—an important requirement for starting services in the country.Focus Keyword:** *Huawei license suspension
Huawei was given a license on September 8, 2017, to offer telecom services and build a system in Pakistan. Under PTA rules, the company had to begin services within a year and could not offer any service or accept payments without this commencement certificate.
Despite multiple reminders from PTA between November 2023 and April 2025, Huawei did not meet the requirements. The company was issued a show cause notice in December 2024 and was given 30 days to explain its failure. A hearing took place in February 2025, where Huawei’s representatives asked for more time. PTA extended the deadline twice, but the company still didn’t submit the required documents.
As a result, on July 11, 2025, PTA suspended Huawei’s license for one month or until the company submits the missing certificate—whichever comes first. If Huawei fails to comply within this time, the license will be permanently canceled without further warning.
Additionally, PTA has directed all telecom operators in Pakistan to immediately stop any services being provided to Huawei under this license.
This strong action by PTA highlights its strict approach toward ensuring that both local and international telecom companies follow the rules before operating in Pakistan.
