Good news for citizens worried about VPN outages. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that the process of registering Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) has been made more straightforward for institutions, software houses, call centers, banks, embassies, and freelancers.
In a latest statement issued by the PTA, it was confirmed that eligible individuals and organizations can now easily register their VPNs through PTA’s official website. Members of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) are also included in this initiatives.
Registration process
To register a VPN, applicants are required to fill out an online form and provide essential details, including their CNIC (National Identity Card) number, company registration information, and tax status. Freelancers must submit proof of their association with a project or company, such as a letter or an email from the client or employer.
Additionally, applicants need to provide an IP address for VPN connectivity. Those requiring a fixed IP address can obtain one from their internet service provide.
The registration process is free of charge and typically takes 8 to 10 working hours to receive approval after submission. Yesterday, PTA has revealed that over 20,000 companies and freelancers have already successfully registered their VPNs using this efficient system.
Special provision for freelancers
Freelancers intending to use VPNs for commercial purposes can register under the “Freelancer” category. However, they must provide all necessary information, including proof of employment or project association.
