Masterson’s defense argued for a new trial, but it was rejected. The prosecution alleged that Masterson’s association with the Church of Scientology was used to avoid consequences.
The church denied any involvement. Masterson’s defense claimed the acts were consensual, while the victims said they were drugged and raped in 2003. “That ’70s Show” was a popular TV comedy series from 1998 to 2006.
