Missing free laptops HEC clarification has been issued after confusion spread regarding the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme. A news report suggested that hundreds of laptops under Phases I and II were “missing,” but the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has now confirmed they were not lost. Instead, they were unaccounted for in official university records.
According to the procedure, HEC provides laptops to universities. These universities are responsible for distributing them to students on merit, following set rules. Out of 1,038 laptops highlighted in the report, records for 895 have already been updated. These laptops were given to students at different universities across the country. The record for the remaining 143 laptops is still being verified.
The University of Karachi has the highest number of pending cases, with 124 laptops yet to be reconciled. HEC has directed all universities to complete the reconciliation process within one month. If they fail to do so, the cost of the laptops will be recovered and deposited into the Government Treasury.
This missing free laptops HEC clarification is important for students, parents, and universities. It shows that the laptops are not lost but require proper record management. Secondary issues like accountability, transparency, and merit-based distribution remain crucial for the credibility of the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme.
The clarification aims to stop rumors and assure the public that the government remains committed to fair distribution. Universities now face strict deadlines to update records and avoid financial penalties.
