In a troubling incident, robbers snatched Rs230,000 from the mother of Pakistani pacer Hasan Ali in Gujranwala while she was on her way to the market.
Ali’s brother, Khurram, told the media that two motorcycle-borne men stole her purse and fled.
Police have launched a manhunt and assured that the suspects will be apprehended soon.
Ironically, the incident comes amid claims of a major drop in property crimes in Gujranwala. According to Punjab Safe Cities Authority data, serious crimes like shop robberies fell by 47% in the first four months of 2025 compared to 2024.
Other declines included shop dacoity (20%), house robbery (29%), shop burglary (11%), and car theft (14%), as reported by The News.
CPO Gujranwala credited the drop to aggressive crackdowns by the CIA, which dismantled 113 inter-district gangs and arrested 290 suspects, recovering stolen goods worth Rs128.8 million between January and April 2025.
