Three traffic police officers were killed on the spot after unidentified gunmen opened fire on them in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district, police said on Sunday.
The attack took place near Sarai Naurang on the Bannu–Lakki road, where the officers were performing routine duty. According to police officials, assailants riding a motorcycle fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene.
The deceased were identified as Jalal, in-charge of Sarai Naurang traffic police, and constables Aziz and Abdullah. Their bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Security forces quickly cordoned off the area, collected forensic evidence, and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the assault.
The killings come amid growing security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) revealed a sharp rise in violence across the country.
According to the report, deaths linked to counter-terrorism operations surged 73% in 2025, with 3,387 fatalities recorded nationwide, compared with 1,950 in 2024. The toll includes militants, security personnel, and civilians.
Police officials said investigations into the Lakki Marwat attack were ongoing and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
