Zubair Anjum, a producer for Geo News, was apprehended from his residence in Karachi by police officers, according to confirmation from his family on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses in the area reported the arrival of individuals in two police vans and double-cabin vehicles, who then took Anjum away. The incident occurred near the Model Colony intersection, where Anjum resides. Anjum’s brother, Wajahat Anjum, stated that the police and plainclothes personnel forcefully entered their house, brandishing firearms and manhandling the family during the process.
“At gunpoint, they asked for Zubair bhai and took him away, along with his mobile phone,” Wajahat Anjum explained, recounting the distressing experience. He also mentioned that the personnel confiscated the digital video recorder (DVR) of the CCTV camera installed in the neighborhood.
Speaking to reporters, Anjum’s brother provided further details of the incident, saying, “The police did not provide any reason for the arrest. They even prevented him from putting on his slippers. We repeatedly asked about the matter.”
He added that some of the personnel were in uniform, while others wore masks, except for one individual. “They were all armed with TT pistols,” Wajahat said.
The incident has been registered as a case of Anjum’s disappearance at the Model Colony Police Station.
Meanwhile, the Korangi senior superintendent of police stated that his force has no information regarding Zubair Anjum’s arrest. He emphasized that no police station or unit has reported taking the media person into custody.
“We are investigating the incident, as police from stations in the Korangi district have not arrested Anjum,” he said, noting that they are gathering details from Anjum’s brother.
