Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise “Pindiz” has quietly changed its name to “Rawalpindiz”, sparking debate among fans about whether the rebranding was necessary or simply a compliance move.
The franchise updated its official social media handles ahead of the upcoming PSL season, replacing “Pindiz” with “Rawalpindiz” to reflect the full name of the city it represents.
From PindiBoyz to Pindiz — and now Rawalpindiz
The team’s branding journey has been unusual. It first gained attention among fans as “PindiBoyz,” a nickname widely used on social media and in fan communities. Later, the franchise formally adopted “Pindiz,” a stylised and modern version inspired by Rawalpindi’s popular nickname, “Pindi.”
Now, the latest shift to “Rawalpindiz” appears to be an attempt to maintain the original branding style while complying with league requirements.
League guidelines behind the change
According to media reports, the name change was made after PSL authorities asked franchises to include the full name of their respective cities in their identities to strengthen regional representation.
However, the transition initially created some confusion. A press release issued the same night still used the name “Pindiz,” while the PSL’s official platforms referred to the team as “Rawalpindiz.”
The franchise later updated its social media profiles to reflect the new name.
Fans divided over the new identity
While some supporters believe the change restores a stronger connection to Rawalpindi, others argue that the original “Pindiz” branding had already gained popularity among fans.
Social media users have been debating whether the repeated name shifts — from PindiBoyz to Pindiz and now Rawalpindiz — have strengthened the brand or diluted its identity.
PSL 11 to expand to new cities
The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League is scheduled to begin on March 26 and run until May 3, 2026.
The upcoming season will feature two new teams and expand the tournament to additional cities across Pakistan.
For the first time in PSL history, matches will also be played at Imran Khan Stadium in Peshawar and Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, bringing top-level franchise cricket to both venues.
As the league prepares for expansion, the question remains: will fans embrace “Rawalpindiz,” or will “Pindiz” remain the name many still prefer?
