Web Desk, July 12— French police have started a full investigation into Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), over serious allegations. Authorities suspect that the company or its top officials may have misused algorithms and illegally collected user data.
The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that police are now officially involved. This means they could question Musk or his team, monitor their communications, or even search offices. If anyone refuses to cooperate, a judge could issue an international arrest warrant.
The case started in January when a French politician and a top government official filed complaints. They accused X of interfering in public systems and stealing data in an organised way. After reviewing some early findings, prosecutors asked the police to look deeper into the company and specific people connected to it.
The accusations include “organised interference with automated systems” and “fraudulent data extraction,” which are serious crimes under French law.
X has not yet responded to these claims. Meanwhile, this adds more pressure on Musk, who is already known for supporting far-right politics in Europe and clashing with EU governments over free speech rules.
This case could also create more tension between Europe and the U.S. on how social media platforms should be controlled.
Earlier, Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, also faced legal trouble in France for similar issues. Musk had criticized Durov’s arrest, calling it a threat to free speech.
Now, with Musk himself under investigation, the debate over tech companies, privacy, and freedom of expression in Europe is expected to grow.
