The Foreign Office of Pakistan has rejected a statement attributed to its spokesperson regarding alleged U.S. interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs. The statement, published in a local English newspaper today ,claimed that Pakistan had disregarded a letter sent by U.S. lawmakers to President Joe Biden concerning the detention of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch clarified that the ministry has no connection to the reported statement. She stated, “We are currently engaging with the newspaper to address concerns about their editorial standards and journalistic ethics.” She further emphasized that media outlets must verify any Foreign Office-related reports before publication.
The controversial report claimed that the Pakistani government dismissed the lawmakers’ letter as open interference in domestic affairs. It highlighted concerns over human rights violations and alleged electoral fraud during the February 2024 elections. The letter from 50 U.S. lawmakers urged President Biden to pressure Pakistan to release Imran Khan and other political detainees, citing deteriorating civil liberties, election irregularities, and media censorship.
The Foreign Office reiterated that international relations should not be influenced by speculative or misreported claims. Spokesperson Baloch underscored the need for accurate reporting to maintain transparency and credibility in sensitive matters.
