In recent days, a video has gone viral on social media showing women dancing and other individuals performing in front of a square-shaped design. As the video gained popularity many social media users criticized it, claiming that the design depicted in the video resembles the Kaaba. But is this claim accurate?
The truth is that the viral video featuring a Kaaba-like square design is fake, created by merging two separate videos. The first part comes from the opening ceremony of a wrestling match in 2023. The second part incorporates scenes from the 2024 Riyadh Fashion Season, manipulated to mislead viewers into thinking that a concert took place in front of a Kaaba replica.
An Egyptian researcher, Mohammed Bin Juma, uncovered the reality of this claim through several points.First, the event in question was a fashion show by Lebanese designer Elie Saab, where several famous singers participated. The clothing showcased was inspired by the traditional Arab tales One Thousand and One Nights. American singer Jennifer Lopez also attended, wearing Elie Saab’s designs. Her outfit was modest compared to many other performances, with no explicit connection to Saudi Arabia.
The Kaaba clips included in the video were from a 2023 boxing match’s opening ceremony. During the event, four screens were installed on stage to display various angles of the match. These screens were later photoshopped to resemble the Kaaba.
Another edited image of a model holding a paper sword originated from a New York fashion show years ago, unrelated to Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, the video featuring Quranic verses mixed with a song is also fabricated, sourced from a 2014 American concert. Quranic recitations were falsely overlaid on the footage to mislead viewers.
Though the video sparked widespread criticism against Saudi Arabia, several users uncovered its truth and informed others about the manipulation.
