As elections approach in Kasur, the Punjab government approves 12 development projects in Malik Ahmad Khan’s constituency, with notifications promptly issued. Despite this surge in development funds in former PM Shahbaz Sharif’s National Assembly Constituency in Kasur, the Election Commission remains silent.
The election season is in full swing, and despite numerous favors for the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), the party fails to resonate with the public. Former PM Shehbaz Sharif seems in a comfort zone in Kasur due to the PMLN stronghold in Kasur district. But in parts of other provinces the PML-N finds itself on an unpredictable playing field, facing the possibility of a crushing defeat from its biggest rivals.
With their leader in jail, electoral symbols snatched away, and party insignia removed from ballot papers, the process of collecting nomination papers turns out to be a battleground in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The situation during the filing of nomination papers is nothing short of a showdown, especially with PTI candidates, creating a challenging scenario for the incumbent governments in those provinces.
Now, Mian Nawaz Sharif is under pressure to come out among the people and showcase his popularity. However, the public is not willing to support him, as his track record suggests that whenever there was a significant challenge for the party or the people of Pakistan, he negotiated deals and left Pakistan, taking refuge in his comfort zone.
Despite full support from the Department of Education and other government institutions, and efforts to reassure employees about participating in election rallies, the public remains hesitant to attend. The enthusiasm and fervor that were once characteristic of the PML-N in any gathering seem to be missing this time.
The rallies and gatherings in connection with the election have not been successful in any way; Bilawal Bhutto’s solo gatherings are faring better in comparison.
So far, the Pakistan Muslim League-N has been unsuccessful in crafting a noteworthy statement. In the last election, ‘Vote ko Izzat Do’ gained acceptance, but this time there is no slogan or headline that can bolster the PML-N’s election campaign.
Now, let’s see how decisively the decision-makers, the Muslim League-N, transform their weak position into a majority. Public assessments and surveys completely negate it.
