Dubai to Enforce Comprehensive Ban on Single-Use Bags, Including Plastic and Paper, Starting June 1
In less than three months, Dubai will implement a city-wide ban on all single-use bags, encompassing both plastic and paper variants.
From June 1 onwards, retail outlets across the emirate will be prohibited from distributing single-use bags, with exceptions outlined for specific circumstances.
Or The initiative, which builds upon the earlier imposition of a 25-fil charge on single-use plastic bags at the start of the year, aims to promote environmental sustainability and reduce plastic waste.
Consumers are encouraged to utilize reusable carriers for their shopping needs.
and Dubai Municipality’s awareness guide, released on Thursday, emphasizes the inclusion of biodegradable bags in the ban, citing their potential environmental impact if not properly recycled.
Because Exemptions to the ban include bags used for specific purposes such as bread, online product packaging, and trash bin liners, among others.
Exemptions
Among the bags that are exempted from the policy are:
- Bread bags.
- Bags used for products packaged online.
- Trash bin liners.
- Wrapping bags for vegetables, meats, fish, and chicken.
- Laundry bags.
- Electronic device bags.
- Garbage bags.
- Grain bags.
