Aiza Khan and Wahaj Ali’s drama serial ‘Mein’ recently concluded. The drama’s storyline captivated viewers multiple times with its portrayal of isolation. Yet, despite this, the drama maintained good ratings.
If the drama achieved high ratings, the fundamental reason behind it is the substantial fan following of Wahaj Ali and Aiza Khan. Actor Wahaj Ali, who garnered a significant fan base last year with his dramas ‘Tere Bina’ and ‘Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha,’ has become a favorite among viewers. This is why the teaser release of his new drama has become the center of everyone’s attention.
In this drama, the audience’s enthusiasm was particularly high because it marked the first appearance of Aiza Khan alongside Wahaj Ali. The drama was written by Zanjabeel Asim and directed by Badar Mahmood. In addition to Aiza Khan and Wahaj Ali, the cast includes Osman Peerzada, Ejaz Aslam, Agha Mustafa Hassan, Sabeena Syed, and others.
The story revolves around Mubashra Jafar (Aiza Khan) and Zaid (Wahaj Ali). Both are characters enclosed within the shells of their own egos, causing complications in their relationships and interactions with those around them. However, they remain indifferent to the consequences of their actions.
As the story progresses towards the final episode, it takes unexpected turns, keeping the audience engaged for weeks. For a considerable time, the plot revolves around Mubashra’s first marriage and divorce. Afterward, Mubashra’s marriage to Wahaj and then Wahaj’s relentless pursuit of his liking, Azika, crossing all limits.
Wahaj Ali is fond of Azika, and the on-screen chemistry between the two has been powerful, captivating viewers. Whenever they share a scene, it feels as if they have forcefully presented themselves to each other or have been expressly instructed to engage in a compelling conversation.
Azika Daniel’s expressions in romantic scenes in this drama were quite peculiar and presented a sense of discomfort. It would be pointless to say that Azika Daniel got an opportunity and she lost it. The actress delivered an extremely lifeless and expressionless performance, leaving the viewers entirely unimpressed.
Although Azika Daniel mentioned in an interview that she doesn’t receive role offers other than negative characters, she couldn’t do justice to a significant role offered in ‘Mein.’
The on-screen chemistry between Wahaj and Aiza in the drama did not make a strong impression. Perhaps the substantial fan following of Aiza Khan and Wahaj Ali is the reason why the drama received high ratings despite the unconvincing storyline.
Watching the drama gives the feeling that Wahaj Ali’s popularity was capitalized to conclude one drama and immediately air another, ‘Mein.’ The way the drama unfolds suggests that the story was hurriedly written, produced, and aired.
In the drama, Mubashra (Aiza Khan) is portrayed as a girl who goes to any lengths to pacify someone and her father supports her in every right and wrong decision. The story also indicates that parents who allow their children to make every right decision suffer losses. It is also revealed in this story that some wealthy parents only play a positive role in relationships if the relationship is among their equals. However, if the relationship is not among equals, sometimes parents go to any extent to ruin their own children’s homes.
The story could have been written more effectively. Zanjabeel Asim is a good writer, but the story of ‘Mein’ disappointed viewers on many occasions.
Overall, the drama ‘Mein’ may have disappointed enthusiasts, but Aiza Khan and Wahaj Ali’s fan following did not let the drama’s ratings plummet. If it is said that the primary reason for the popularity of the drama serial ‘Mein’ is its central characters, it would not be entirely baseless.
Hopefully, Aiza Khan and Wahaj Ali will reconsider accepting a script similar to ‘Mein’ next time.
