In a heart-rending incident, a policeman deputed at Karachi’s Central Jail was resorted to go to the extreme extent of bringing his children to the Karachi Press Club for selling due to extreme financial crises.
The cop identified himself as Waheed said that his salary was withheld for three months and he is unable to feed his family.
Waheed, the father of nine children, came to the press club accompanied by four, saying he had become desperate. “My salary was stopped three months ago, and I have nine children to feed and I’ve brought four of them here to sell because I have no other option,” he said tearfully.
The policeman, who was previously posted at Malir Jail and lived in a police quarter was transferred to Central Jail. However, along with the transfer, his salary was also stopped, and he was asked to vacate his official residence.
“I hardly manage my night duties, whereas my family members are being harassed in my absence, shared Waheed.” “I am being asked to vacate the official residence immediately, and I have no money to do anything. My family is being harassed and is being treated poorly in my absence,” he added.
Waheed has appealed to the Supreme Court and higher officials to intervene in his case and provide relief. His story stirs outrage and debate at the severe financial plight of law enforcement personnel in Pakistan.
On the other hand, Superintendent Malir Jail, Arshad Shah, responded to the situation and said, Waheed was transferred to Central Jail against complaints to him, and he added a notice of two months was given to Waheed to vacate the government residence, and his salary would be issued to him from the account of Central Jail.
