Multiple deadly blasts and terrorist attacks near the grave of General Soleimani, head of foreign operations of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, in the Saheb al-Zaman mosque in Kerman resulted in at least 73 fatalities, according to state television.
The deputy governor of Kerman province, Rahman Jalali, confirmed the incident as a terrorist attack at the graveyard of Gen. Soleimani. Two successive blasts occurred near the mosque, and the cause remains unknown.
State television displayed images of ambulances and rescue personnel at the scene. Additionally, 30 people were reported injured in the explosions.
The targeted individual, Qassem Soleimani, led the Quds Force and was killed in a US drone strike near Baghdad airport, remaining a revered figure in Iran.
Live footage showed medical teams tending to the wounded near the mosque, where thousands of people had gathered to mourn the IRGC commander.
“The incident is a terrorist attack,” Rahman Jalali, the deputy governor of Kerman province, told state TV.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the explosions.
