Controversy Erupts Over Air Ambulance Tender Award in Punjab
Controversy surrounds Punjab’s air ambulance tender awarded to Sky Wing, raising compliance questions. Scrutiny surrounds the tender process as Sky Wing emerges as the winning bidder, raising multiple concerns.
One major issue is Sky Wing’s lack of a charter license and the required five years of experience in the field. According to the tender conditions, bidders were expected to possess these credentials to ensure their capability and reliability in operating air ambulance services. However, it has been revealed that Sky Wing does not meet these criteria, casting doubt on the validity of their bid.
Furthermore, it has been discovered that Sky Wing only possesses a single-engine aircraft for air ambulance operations, which is not suitable for night flights. This limitation raises significant safety concerns, as air ambulance services often operate during nighttime emergencies. Additionally, the company’s temporary air ambulance, operated by Idhe Foundation, has an expired license, further complicating the situation.

The decision to grant the tender to Sky Wing proceeded without addressing stakeholders’ concerns, including those from the Punjab Rescue 1122 department.. Despite being informed of the irregularities and compliance issues, the government proceeded with awarding the tender to Sky Wing, bypassing the warnings and recommendations for a more thorough evaluation of the bids.
This controversy has highlighted the need for greater transparency and accountability in the tendering process, particularly when it comes to critical services such as air ambulance operations. Citizens’ safety is paramount, especially in emergency medical services decisions, requiring thorough care and diligence in every choice made
In light of these developments, stakeholders are calling for a review of the tender award process and a reevaluation of the bids to ensure that the selected provider meets all necessary requirements and can deliver reliable and safe air ambulance services to the people of Punjab.
