Brad Pitt has made strong allegations against his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, claiming that she sold her shares in their French estate, Château Miraval, as a means of seeking revenge.
According to Pitt, Jolie deliberately violated his and his company’s contractual rights and introduced an outsider into his family home. He also expressed concern about Jolie’s association with Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler, citing an “existential threat to the business” due to Shefler’s connections to Russia amidst the Ukraine conflict.
Pitt’s lawyers stated in recent court filings that the actor only became aware of the deal through a press release, as Jolie had intentionally kept him in the dark about it as part of their ongoing custody battle.
The documents further claimed that Jolie colluded with Shefler and his associates in secret to pursue and execute the alleged sale, ensuring that Pitt remained unaware of the transaction. Shefler’s company, Stoli, and Jolie were accused of knowingly violating Pitt’s and his company’s contractual rights, effectively inviting a stranger into Pitt’s family home.
To provide context, Pitt filed a lawsuit last year against Jolie regarding their jointly owned vineyard in southern France. In 2008, the former couple had acquired a controlling stake in the vineyard and had agreed not to sell their shares without consulting each other. However, following their tumultuous divorce in 2016, Jolie sold her interests in the winery to Russian liquor giant Stoli, which angered Pitt.
The new legal filings also revealed that the winery business was a personal passion for Pitt. In 2013, he teamed up with winemaker Marc Perrin, and together they established one of the first high-end rosé wine brands, turning Miraval into a highly successful and globally recognized business worth millions of dollars.
According to the documents, Jolie did not contribute to the success of Miraval, despite expressing support for Pitt’s efforts on behalf of the family. Instead, Pitt claims he invested his money and hard work into the home and business based on Jolie’s promise to maintain Miraval and the contractual rights held by her company, Nouvel.
