Apple is preparing to roll out a series of cutting-edge satellite-powered features for its upcoming iPhone and Apple Watch models, signaling a new leap in off-grid connectivity and emergency communication technology.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17 Pro — expected to launch in 2026 — will include enhanced satellite functions that go beyond emergency SOS. The new capabilities may allow limited texting, navigation, and location sharing even in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi service. Apple aims to expand these services globally through satellite partnerships that could make the iPhone the most independent communication device yet.
The satellite push is part of Apple’s broader strategy to deepen its ecosystem and position its hardware as essential in both everyday and extreme conditions. The Apple Watch is also expected to gain upgraded satellite features, further integrating with the company’s health and safety suite.
At the same time, Apple is reportedly nearing a $1 billion-a-year deal with Google to power a revamped Siri using a custom version of the Gemini AI model. This move would mark Apple’s biggest artificial intelligence collaboration to date, potentially giving Siri new generative and conversational abilities to compete with ChatGPT and Google Assistant.
To further diversify its lineup, Apple is also developing its first low-cost MacBook, designed to challenge Windows-based laptops in the education and budget segments — a space dominated by Chromebooks and entry-level PCs.
As Apple approaches its 50th anniversary, analysts say these moves reflect the company’s strategy to blend innovation, accessibility, and AI dominance — setting the stage for what could be its next trillion-dollar growth cycle.
