Former South African captain AB de Villiers has revealed that Virat Kohli’s decision to step down from the Test series against England was influenced by the expected birth of his second child with Anushka Sharma. De Villiers made this claim during his YouTube show.
They were having a chat session with their fans on their YouTube channel when someone asked them, ‘Have you talked to Virat Kohli?’ AB de Villiers replied that Virat Kohli is spending time with his family.
In his video, de Villiers stated, ‘I only know that Virat Kohli is fine. He is spending some time with his family, which is why he didn’t play the first two Test matches. Besides that, I can’t confirm anything else.
AB de Villiers further stated, ‘I had a text conversation with Virat, and he is expecting the birth of their second child. It’s crucial for them to spend time with their family right now. If you are not true to yourself, you lose your purpose. We miss Virat, but he has made the right decision.

Following AB de Villiers’ claim, Anushka Sharma is trending on the microblogging website X (formerly Twitter), and social media users are expressing various opinions in the comments.
The account named ‘Error Name Not Found’ mentioned, ‘AB de Villiers is someone you should never trust. Anushka and Virat might be considering blocking him on WhatsApp.
The same social media where some users continued to comment, a barrage of memes also surfaced.
According to the website Bollywood Life, apparently AB de Villiers has deleted the part of his YouTube video in which he claimed the birth of Virat and Anushka’s second child. A user also claimed in their post on X (formerly Twitter) that AB de Villiers has deleted a specific part of his video; if you haven’t seen the video yet, check it out in my post here.
It is clear that Virat Kohli withdrew from the first two Test matches against England in the Test series due to personal reasons. Fans speculated various reasons for his absence, with some suggesting that Virat Kohli might have stepped back due to his mother’s deteriorating health, a claim later refuted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
So far, there has been no official statement from Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma on this matter. Previously, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had clarified that cricket enthusiasts and media should refrain from making assumptions about the reasons behind Kohli’s decision.
According to BCCI, Virat Kohli, after consulting with Indian captain Rohit Sharma and the team management, prioritized his family responsibilities.
