The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has granted approval for an increase in the per unit price of electricity.
The power tariff has been raised by 46 paisas per unit to account for the fuel cost adjustment for the second quarter of fiscal year 2022-23. The decision has been forwarded to the federal government for final approval.
This hike in electricity rates will impose a heavy burden of over Rs15 billion on consumers who are already grappling with soaring inflation and diminished purchasing power. However, it’s worth noting that the additional charges will not be applicable to K-Electric.
